Afterglow Escapes are designed for you to fully plan and organize a beach vacation to the Dominican Republic. You will have our support on the island as a concierge guide that recognizes your desire for sobriety support during your trip. 

Travelling can be stressful. Anxieties can easily creep up when uncertainties outside your control are presented during a vacation. A combination of wanting to ease stress and the envy of others kicks in at the same time – not a good emotional mix for your recovery. We want to come along side you and level those anxieties by providing friendship, a knowledge of your destination, and familiarity with the drinking triggers that can jeopardize your sobriety. You can do this; we are there to support you. 

This is not a recovery retreat. I am not going to memorize some Eckart Tolle quotes, try and sound more enlightened than you, and then hand you a journal. This is a vacation. We are going to sit around a pool, stir up some mocktails, listen to some music, play cards, and debate whether Lenny Kravitz could beat Kanye West in a slap-boxing contest. 

Please know that we have not developed this service to be overly opportunistic. A large portion of our fees you would be spending on cabs, guides, and activities anyway. In a way, you might be overspending because of your lack of familiarity. We are with you, physically attending to you, 3 ½ days out of your 7-day trip, and in case you haven’t read Finding Bishop Castle…, we are fun! We are also on-call throughout the entirety of your stay.

If you are comfortable with travel and happen to be in our area, but do not need any assistance, please email us. We would absolutely love to try and have coffee or a meal with you if our schedule allows it… no fees, no meet-and-greet charges. Meeting you and celebrating our stories is what Afterglow Escapes are all about. 

Your trip and airfare should be planned Saturday to Saturday-ish. About 6 to 9 months prior to your vacation you will want to check with our calendar for availability. Email us your intended travel week and we will schedule an intake / phone chat to make sure the trip is the right one for you. Once we have confirmed the week together, you can secure airfare, condo or villa, and our fees. Okay, let's Plan!

Our preferred location for you to stay in so that you are close to our home is Perla Marina. Perla Marina is situated in between the two popular beach towns of Sosua and Cabarete. Sosua is a larger coastal town with a gorgeous Caribbean-like bay boasting kayaking, snorkeling, diving, and deep-sea fishing. Cabarete is an athletic beach town with kiteboarding, surfing, beach yoga, windsurfing. Both towns have a tremendous array of international expats lending to a modern variety of cuisine. To the south of both towns, into the mainland, lies adventure boasting monkey jungles, ATV excursions, waterfall treks, hiking and mountain biking. 

Perla Marina is a safe, coastal, perfectly situated gated community with a semi-private beach. If you just need a get-away, and you don’t plan any other activities on your Flex days, you are certain to find comfortable lodging, pools, beaches, spas, and relaxation right in our community. We have a few restaurants within walking distance and a small convenience store. Our local beachside restaurant, Natura, even has Mocktails on their menu! 

Your 7-Day Afterglow Escape consists of us getting you settled in on Saturday, us having a beach & dine day at Perla Marina on Sunday, and our guided tours on Tuesday and Thursday.
You have the flexibility to plan Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with any excursions or activities to fill those days. You know yourself best, if you have a single activity like diving, yoga, golf, surfing, or reading, you can fill your extra days with your preferred activity. However, if you are seeking varied adventures, we have listed many links below with recommended activities. The Dominican's North Coast has exceptional touring companies to lead you in a sampling of what the island has to offer.
